Saint Thomas, once known as Saint Thomas in the East, is a suburban parish situated at the south eastern end of Jamaica, within the county of Surrey. It is the birthplace of the Right Honourable Paul Bogle, one of Jamaica's seven National Heroes. Morant Bay, its chief
town and capital, is the site of the Morant Bay Rebellion, of which Bogle and George William Gordon were leaders.
Premier Attraction: Reggae Falls
Reggae Falls is a good place to go see, but even better yet, it is a good place to go with a group for a cookout and a day of relaxation. There you can swim, explore your surroundings, sunbathe and climb to the top of the falls.
The falls was a hydro-electric plant, but storms "mash up" most of the machinery and the plant closed. Now the water cascades over the dam's concrete lip, making a deep swimming pool at the base.
Bath Botanical Garden
Established in 1779 by the Government of Jamaica, these gardens are the second oldest in the Western Hemisphere. Many of the plants first brought to Jamaica were introduced here, including the croton, the jacaranda, cinnamon, mango, jackfruit and breadfruit.
The Bath Fountain, located in the foothills of the John Crow mountains in St. Thomas are reputed to have healing qualities. The natural spring waters are believed to aid in the recovery of a wide range of ailments, including gout,
rheumatism and skin conditions. There are two springs, one cold and one piping hot which flow through the rocks on bamboo pipes. Discovered by a runaway slave in 1695, its high mineral content (sulphur and lime) is said to be effective in the treatment of skin diseases, gout and rheumatism.
Reach Falls was discovered by runaway slaves from plantations in the neighboring parish of St Thomas who sought refuge in the hills of the
John Crow mountains. Reach Falls is a luxurious eco attraction hidden in the Montane Forrest on the John Crow Mountain Range.
The attraction offers a unique blend of comfort, relaxation, and adventure. Reach Falls is centred on an exotic waterfall cascading down a rock face into an emerald river pool. The lush greenery from the Montane Forrest and the refreshing pool beneath the cascading waterfall promises a memorable experience. Reach Falls offers the opportunity to enjoy the cascading waterfall, a picnic area, and a guided tour upstream the Driver’s River (which feeds the waterfall) featuring a visit inside our legendary underwater cave.
